Philip Spitzer
Assistant Coach
Spitzer enters his second year with Wartburg's program after serving as the student assistant and volunteer assistant coach at Calvin. He completed his undergraduate degree at Calvin College in 2014. He competed in cross country and track and field for the Knights contributed to a consecutive team winning streak of 28 conference and 17 regional championships.

Spitzer ranks on Calvin's list of top 25 performances in the 10,000m and 3,000m steeplechase. He has career-best times of 31:08 for 10,000m, 15:11 for 5,000m and 9:49 for the 3,000m steeplechase.


Abby Fliehler
Assistant Coach

Fliehler enters her sixth year with the program. She graduated from Wartburg College in 2001 and was a highly competitive runner in both the track and cross country programs.  She was captain of the track team when it won both indoor and outdoor conference team championships.

After graduating from Wartburg, she coached successfully for 10 years at both high school and college levels before returning to Wartburg. While the assistant coach at Iowa City High, her teams won two Iowa State team championships. She then was an assistant coach at Coe College and coached runners to 15 college records including several All-Americans. She coached Coe runners to score among the greatest conference championship distance points in college history.  Fliehler was head girl’s track coach at Springville High School for three years and coached multiple place winners in Iowa State HS Track Championships. She teaches at Denver High School.
